Barcelona will try to sell outcast centre-back, priced at €15 million
Spanish publication BRAND has offered an update on the future of Clement Lenglet. The Barcelona defender has been on loan at Tottenham this season, but his spell would soon come to an end.
As per the report, Barcelona have no intention to recall Lenglet and make him a part of the first-team next season, even though the defender has been mildly impressive since joining the North London giants.
Barcelona’s idea is to sanction a sale of Lenglet to Tottenham. The Premier League outfit have been interested in making the defender’s move permanent in the past, with Barça valuing the player at around €10-15 million.
Since joining Spurs on a loan deal, Lenglet has featured in 29 competitive matches this season. He has established himself as a key performer in defence alongside Cristian Romero. He was, in fact, one of the favourites of previous coach Antonio Conte.
However, the report points out that Barcelona’s negotiations with Tottenham have not yet started due to complications over Spurs’ management position. Conte was sacked by the London outfit last month, which has led to a period of uncertainty.
Cristian Stellini has been brought in to steady the ship, but with Spurs approaching Julian Nagelsmann, among others, there is no final call on Lenglet’s role in the team next season or whether or not the club would want him to be a part of the squad next term.
Therefore, Barcelona will have to play the waiting game if they are to sanction the sale of the former Sevilla starlet.
The Catalans are facing a precarious situation with other loanees too. Sergino Dest, for one, has performed poorly at AC Milan and there is uncertainty on whether or not he would leave Camp Nou, though Barça are reportedly trying to engineer a swap deal involving him and top target Yannick Carrasco.
