Bundesliga: Jean-Paul Boëtius from Hertha BSC after another tumor diagnosis – teammates and coaches in shock

Written by

On Thursday (22 September) Hertha BSC won a friendly game at the NOFV Oberliga side 1. FC Frankfurt 8-0. But the game was overshadowed by reports in the morning that Hertha professional Jean-Paul Boëtius will be out until further notice.

The reason is very sad: the 28-year-old newly signed from Mainz 05 was diagnosed with a tumor in the testicle during a urological examination on Wednesday. The Rotterdam native will perform on Friday.

Besides his teammates Marco Richter, Timo Baumgartl (1. FC Union Berlin) and Sebastien Haller (Borussia Dortmund), Boëtius is the fourth Bundesliga professional to have been diagnosed with a tumor in the last few months.

Teammates Marvin Plattenhardt and Maximilian Mittelstädt expressed shock at the news after the friendly match in Frankfurt (Oder). “Of course it’s frustrating when you get messages like that. We stand behind our teammates, we are there for him and hope he will be with us again soon,” said Captain Plattenhardt. Mittelstädt said. “We are very shocked and everyone is behind him.

Coach Sandro Schwarz said after the 8-0 win at the newly promoted Oberliga: “It’s shocking news. The way the guys performed and handled it all day was extraordinary. Today’s focus is to make clear the recovery wish for our Djanga,” said the 43-year-old.
