Liverpool fixtures are ‘good news’ for Jurgen Klopp after ‘good signs’ in Champions League race

Jurgen Klopp is welcoming the nine-day break Liverpool now have ahead of a trip to Leicester later this month, saying his players are “completely knackered”.

The Reds came through their third game in less than a week on Saturday evening with a 1-0 win against Brentford as they made it six successive victories and eight unbeaten since the goalless draw with Chelsea over a month ago.

Mohamed Salah‘s first-half goal was enough to secure a third straight home triumph and the Reds now trail fourth-place Manchester United by just a point in the Premier League ahead of their own trip to West Ham United on Sunday.

Liverpool are not in action now until Monday May 15 when they travel to relegation-threatened Leicester and Klopp says the gap between fixtures is a huge relief given the energy expended over the past few days.

“Good news, it great news,” Klopp said. “Absolutely. Imagine we would have now played Tuesday again. We would have been completely knackered. It’s really time (for a rest).

“You could see today that one team had the full week and the other team played only three days ago, a super intense game as well. And before that, three days ago, a super intense game as well!
