Man United injury update: Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw and Marcel Sabitzer latest news and return dates
Erik ten Hag’s defence has been hit by Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez’s absence, while Tyrell Malacia was ruled out of the win at Nottingham Forest.
In midfield, Marcel Sabitzer was pulled from the line-up on Sunday after an injury blow and he is joined in the treatment room by Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek.
Tom Heaton and Alexander Garnacho are also unavailable but, at least, United did welcome back Christian Eriksen on the weekend.
Here is your latest update of Manchester United injuries and return dates…
Marcus Rashford
Ten Hag has described how Rashford has a “chance” to feature against Sevilla on Thursday as he recovers from a groin injury.
The striker picked up the issue against Everton and has missed the last two matches, with a return against Brighton three days after the trip to Spain looking likely.
Luke Shaw
The Forest game came too soon for left-back Shaw, who did appear to be within a shot of playing in his manager’s pre-game assessment.
Also absent for the past two matches, it appears he will be fit for Sevilla.
Marcel Sabitzer
Austrian midfielder Sabitzer was down to start on the weekend yet felt an issue in the warm-up, leading to him being scratched for Eriksen. An update is awaited to determine the extent of his injury.
Ten Hag said: “We decided not to take the risk, we will find out tomorrow what it is. But when you have Eriksen on the bench, it is definitely not a disadvantage.”
Tyrell Malacia
A knee injury kept Malacia out of the team at Forest after the defender had been “struggling in the week”.
United have indicated that the issue is not serious and he may be fit to face Sevilla, and could even start if Shaw is moved across to central defence.
Raphael Varane
United have confirmed Varane’s absence for a “few weeks” following his half-time exit against Sevilla.
The exact nature of the injury has not been announced, reportedly a foot complaint, and he may be eyeing a return against either West Ham or Wolves in the middle of next month.
Lisandro Martinez
Martinez has been ruled out for the rest of the season after being taken off on a stretcher in the Europa League draw.
The Argentine suffered a broken metatarsal bone in his foot, which typically has a recovery time of two to three months – meaning he is expected back in time for pre-season.
Scott McTominay
McTominay is nearing a return from a knock after only narrowly missing out on the weekend.
Having scored against Everton, the midfielder missed the last two games but could make the upcoming Sevilla trip.
Alexander Garnacho
An ankle injury will keep teenage winger Garnacho on the sidelines for longer than expected.
Ten Hag has admitted the blow, suffered against Southampton before the last international break, is more “severe” than thought and Garnacho now faces a fight to play again this season.
However, on Monday he pictured himself back with boots on to give hope that a return could be looming.
Tom Heaton
Veteran goalkeeper Heaton will miss the next couple of weeks at least having been ruled out with an ankle injury.
United revealed the issue earlier this month, after he picked up the problem before the international break.
Donny van de Beek
Last month, Van de Beek showed fans a glimpse of his comeback from a serious knee injury that he accrued in January.
The Dutchman will miss the rest of the campaign.
